Khwai Tented Camp located on a semi-permanent site within this community-run concession on the eastern border of the Moremi Game reserve, on the banks of a lagoon flowing into the Khwai river, acts as a boundary between the reserve and the community area, offering visitors staying here several unique ways to experience Africa.
Khwai Tented Camp is currently undergoing a complete rebuild to a more modernised and spacious camp. The camp will comprise of 6 modern style meru tents built on raised decking, with open views of the lagoon in front of camp, and 180 degree views of the bush around them. Guests can enjoy spacious and comfortable tents with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor alfresco bucket showers and flush toilets. The main area will include a large decking overlooking the lagoon with a sunken fire pit and an infinity pool, as well as several comfortable areas from which to enjoy the stunning views over the water. The new camp will include a full solar power farm and a sewerage purity system to ensure that 80% of all the water used in camp is recyclable.
Besides the day-time drives which can feature Africa’s big attractions – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – guests at Khwai Tented Camp are able to explore nature after sunset with a night drive. This activity, along with the guided walking safaris, is not usually permitted in the National Parks or Game reserves, and allows guests to get an up close and personal experience with some of Africa’s nocturnal and / or more elusive animals. The camp also provides the opportunity to explore the great stands of leadwood and mopane woodlands as well as open grasslands and banks of the Khwai river on foot.
Preserving the romance of yester-year, a simpler life in harmony with nature, Khwai Tented Camp will leave you longing to return to Africa. There are no permanent structures; everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as it was found, minimizing the impact on the environment.
In the family cottage, guests will enjoy a spacious and private family safari experience, with a wooden deck overlooking the lagoon where afternoon siestas and evening dining can be enjoyed. Accommodation includes an open plan room with a curtain divider between the parents bed and the lounge / children’s area. In addition there are en-suite bathroom facilities comprising of a spacious bath, a shower and an elegant basin as well as flush toilet facilities.
Simple yet elegant, the new Khwai Family Cottage provides families with young children the opportunity to experience an authentic and exclusive African safari.

Guided walks normally depart from the camp after breakfast, the duration of the walk will depend solely on the group walking.
The Bird life at Khwai Tented Camp is phenomenal and the perfect place to view such a wide variety of species. From beginners to avid birders this is the place for you.
On the afternoon game drive just before sunset guests will stop at a secluded spot where the professional guide will stop the vehicle and unpack tables, drinks and snacks for guests to enjoy before departing on a night game drive.
Night Drives are offered as an optional activity at Khwai Tented Camp and can be arranged on request. Most of our afternoon game drive continue into Night Game Drives if all guests on the vehicle wish to continue their safari experience.
Khwai Tented Camp is situated on a beautiful lagoon, therefore allowing us to run breathtaking Mokoro experiences. This activity is seasonal (when water levels permit).
A Mokoro is a traditional canoe which is normally made by digging out the trunk of a large tree. However to preserve the trees and national parks we have moulded our Mokoros out of Fibreglass.
Khwai Tented Camp offers Bush Lunches or Bush Dinners on request
The African Bush Camps Foundation is committed to empowering rural communities. The camp is a partner with communities on the outskirts of wildlife areas to become economically sustainable whilst ensuring that natural resources are protected and cared for. They also support local schools and run education programmes for children in communities. Guests who stay with at Khwai Tented Camp are invited to visit the Khwai Community Area in Botswana to take a cultural tour of the nearby villages. This helps travellers gain a deeper understanding of the country they are visiting and its people. As extraordinary as a safari is, these tours allows you to engage with Africa and its rich cultural heritage.
