On the far eastern edge of the private 320,000 acre Selinda Reserve in Northern Botswana lies a Zafara Camp ( originally called Zibadjanja ). In 1826 the Viceroy of Egypt presented to Charles X of France a giraffe that had been discovered in Nubia. This giraffe was floated down the Nile in a dhow to Alexandria before being shipped to Marseille and then walked to Paris. Everyone fell in love with the giraffe and as it had no name the Nubians named it ‘Zarafa’ which is Arabic for the ‘beloved one’ which the French then pronounced ‘giraffe’.
The Camp consists of 4 magnificent tented villas for maximum 8 guests plus a guide tent. All rooms have a breath taking view over the Zibdiaja Lagoon which is the source of the Savute River.
Children from 8 years and above are welcome. Families with 8 and 15 year old children would have to hire a private vehicle when staying at the Camp.
