Serengeti Simba Lodge is a small, owner-run property set on top of a rocky outcrop (kopje), offering stunning views over endless plains in every direction. It lies on the path of the great Serengeti migration, so, from its environs, it’s possible to see wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle as they make their way towards better grazing — sometimes with ravenous big cats in pursuit or crocodiles lurking in wait at river crossings.
To describe it as a tented community hardly does it justice. The tented rondavel’s are built on solid stone foundations and each has an attached bath and outdoor shower, allowing guests to experience the romance of camping with the security of a permanent structure. Each sleeps two, with triples possible. In addition, there’s a stone house with six rooms and two family suites.
Every tent is beautifully and simply decorated with local fabrics and hardwood furniture. Sleeping comfort is assured with mosquito nets. Each of the tented rondavel’s has a private wooden deck where visitors can watch the sun rise and set or gaze over the majesty of the Serengeti Plains. Whilst the six Stone House rooms don’t have a wooden deck they have unparalleled views of the Serengeti.
Visitors can get together in the communal areas which incorporate reception, lounge, bar and dining spaces, opening out on to a deck. And the magic goes on — there’s an infinity pool with a flagstone terrace and yet more breathtaking views, especially at sunset.
Food is made only from the finest local ingredients with an emphasis on healthy. Fresh bread is baked daily. Vegans and vegetarians as well as meat-eaters will be delighted with the choices on every menu.
Serengeti Simba Lodge is located just outside the National Park in the Ikona Wildlife Management Area near the Grumeti River and Grumeti Reserves.
