The camp is located in the Ruaha National Park, one of the largest in Africa and is situated on an old sand river used as a corridor by game. On the two hour transfer from Msembe airstrip to the camp, you will pass through several different ecosystems in this rich and varied landscape.
Acacia and Fig trees shade the twelve well-spaced apart tents, nestled around a curve in the sand river – with private views of wildlife action throughout the day. Each tent has an en suite bathroom with flush toilet and hot shower and is furnished with twin or double beds. The tents are spacious with a comfortable veranda from which to watch the animals passing by. One extra single bed can be added to make a triple tent, and also two of the tents can be turned into a family tent with an extra room with twin beds added on at the front, in place of the verandah.
Children up to 6 years are not advised to come to Mdonya because of the proximity of wild animals wandering freely through the camp.
Excursions:
With it’s no frills ambience, reminiscent of the hunting camps of yesteryear, Mdonya Old River Camp is the ideal base for superb driving safaris. Again, we are very flexible and guests may choose to go on a morning and an evening game drive, or for a full day game drive ranging far from camp, with picnic lunch at some choice spot. Game safaris are carried out in 4WD vehicles which take max 4-6 guests and the drives are not limited to a specific schedule but tailor made to clients’ wishes.
